Christkindlmarkt having explosive season
Christkindlmarkt is celebrating its 30th year, now held at PNC Plaza at Steelstacks and vendors and volunteers report steady attendance and amazing sales.
In a year of high inflation, how can this group of vendors, artists, artisans and craftspeople be having their best year ever? Jeff Nathans, owner and lead designer of BG Silversmith, has participated at the market nine times and said, “Every year is different, styles change but people always respect consistency and quality workmanship.”
Nathans said people return for his heirloom-quality jewelry.
Similar sentiments were shared by Doug Miller of Miller’s Woodshop. Miller said it’s hard to judge attendance based on location, but he is doing better than previous years.
Bethlehem merchant Warren Clark, co-founder of Domaci has had a brick-and-mortar location in Bethlehem since 2016 and became inspired during COVID to increase sales by attending Christkindlmarkt. Clark says Domaci is locked into the event, as every year gets better.
Bethlehem resident Barb Talijan of Owl be Beading has been at the event 16 of the last 17 years and said the same.
ArtsQuest CEO and President Kassie Hilgert said, “Through the decades, various vendors, artists, crafters and retailers have become a part of our extended family, offering one-of-a-kind items and a unique festive shopping experience.”
