Senneca steps down as Whitehall High School football coach

Whitehall High School head football coach, Matt Senneca, has resigned his position as head coach.

Coach Senneca is coming off an outstanding season as he led the Zephyrs to a District XI 5A Championship and a PIAA first round playoff victory and quarterfinal berth.

The team finished the season at 8-6, while beating both the District XI 6A and 4A Champions during the regular season.

Coach Senneca leaves the Whitehall football program after serving as head coach for a total of four seasons. Coach won two District XI 5A Championships during his four-year stint, also winning in the COVID shortened 2020 season. Coach Senneca coached seven EPC first team all-stars and coached Quinn Wentling to a first team all-state honor in 2020. Coach Senneca’s career mark at Whitehall stands at 17-26.

“Matt Senneca devoted four meaningful seasons to the Zephyr football family, despite the challenges at the beginning of his tenure and the COVID pandemic. Coach truly became engrained into the Zephyr football family and will also remain an important piece of it. He reinvigorated our football alumni and created an environment of success for our football student athletes.

“He was a steward of our program, focused on its improvement and success, on a daily basis. Matt coached kids hard but loved them harder. Coach leaves Whitehall better than when he found it. He led us through some tough stuff and proved that he was Zephyr Tough,” said Whitehall High School Athletic Director Bob Hartman through a release.

Whitehall will begin the search to replace Coach Senneca immediately.

Interested candidates to reach out to Bob Hartman in the Whitehall Athletic Department and apply through the Whitehall-Coplay School District website at www.whitehallcoplay.org after clicking on the Human Resources tab.
