Diane Louise Schaffer, 80, of Emmaus, died Dec. 1, 2022, from complications following surgery. She was the wife of the Rev. Frank Schaffer for 61 years. She was the only child of Elda J. and Daniel G. Schaeffer of Slatington.
They started their family while Frank attended Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. Over the years she and her husband fostered 16 children of varying ages and hosted many foreign exchange students as well. She loved children and served on the board at Bethany Children’s Home for many years as well as running a small day care from her home. She was a devoted grandmother and went to great lengths to attend as many sporting events, music recitals and theater performances as she could.
She loved to bake and shared many delicious treats at church, school and family events over the years. She enjoyed crocheting and gifted many loved ones with beautiful blankets, scarves and prayer shawls. She was devoted to family dog Daisy, who predeceased her by just a few months. We know they have had a wonderful reunion!
Contributions may be made to Solomon’s UCC or Bethany Children’s Home (https://bethanyhome.org/) in memory of Diane.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 15 at Solomon’s United Church of Christ, Macungie. Calling hours begin 10 a.m. with a memorial service 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of her life at a location to be determined.
Arrangements were made by the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Emmaus.
