STUDENT PROFILE

Grade: Senior.

Family members: My Mom is Jessica Cooperman, my dad is Hartley Lachter, and my sister is Mollie Lachter.

Favorite subject(s) : I love English class because I get to work on the technique of writing, something I find really interesting. I love getting to better understand how grammar and rhetorical devices affect your writing and message. I also love physics because all the problems feel like solving a puzzle.

Activities: I am editor of the school newspaper, and am also involved in the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society and the Moxie Civil Rights Club.

Career goals: In the future I hope to be a science journalist in order to report on things like health and climate change in a way that can reach a wide audience.

Heroes: One of my greatest heroes is my grandma, who I call Bubbie. My Bubbie is the toughest lady you’ll ever meet. She’s always up to learn a new skill, go on an adventure, or hike up a mountain with me. She is super brave, has a killer sense of humor, and bakes the best muffins in the world.

Hobbies: I love to sew, hike, climb and play piano.

Current job(s): I currently work as a lifeguard.

Volunteer/community work: I have volunteered largely with animal shelters. Freshman through junior year, I wrote bios about adoptable dogs for a dogs rescue’s website. Junior and senior year, I have been taking care of super cute cats at the Lehigh County Humane Society. I am very allergic to cats but I love them anyway.

Likes: I love snowstorms, making spotify playlists, lavender coffee, and my grumpy little dog Timmy.

Dislikes: I am really not a fan of the beach.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment is the silver key I won in the scholastic writing awards my freshman year. It was the first writing competition I’d ever entered and I was really proud of the fact that I put myself out there. Entering that contest gave me more confidence in my writing for the future.

Advice for peers: My advice for peers would be to do what makes you happy. Take classes you like, wear clothes that make you feel good, try hobbies you’ve always worried you’d be bad at, talk to people who treat you with kindness. In high school, it’s so easy to feel like you have to fit a mold. You really don’t.
