David Thomas Moat
David Thomas Moat, 73, died Nov. 14, 2022, after losing his battle with cancer.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of Henry Waters Moat and Marguerite Althea (Snyder) Moat.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (Carpenter) Moat.
After graduating from Whitehall High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Muhlenberg College and a Master in Business Administration degree from Lehigh University.
He worked more than 30 years at PPL in its Information Systems and Information Technology Auditing departments.
He was also a part-time instructor at DeSales University teaching undergraduate computer classes, and graduate information security and information technology auditing classes.
After his retirement, he volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital and later worked there part-time as a pharmacy technician.
After a few years of retirement, he reconnected with his passion for biology and started teaching labs in general biology and genetics at Lehigh Carbon Community College.
He truly enjoyed meeting new students each semester and working with each one to share his passion in biology.
He loved to travel to National Parks around the U.S., but enjoyed vacationing in Florida the most, where he could ride his bike and cool off with a float in the pool every day, even throughout the winter.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued teaching biology labs virtually while staying in Florida.
He had many interests, but he enjoyed Major League Baseball, and following college and professional basketball and football, especially cheering for the Oregon Ducks teams.
A private gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation (FCSF.org), Sights for Hope of the Lehigh Valley, or a charity of one’s choice.
