For its fall musical, the theater department at Parkland High School is producing “Shrek, the Musical. JR.”
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway musical. the play follows the adventures of Shrek, the ogre.
His life is disturbed one day by the appearance of the residents of Fairy Land.
They had been kicked out of their home by Lord Farquaad, making Shrek one unhappy ogre.
On his way to confront Farquaad, Shrek is befriended by a wisecracking Donkey who plagues Shrek with his constant talking.
Farquaad agrees to return Shrek’s land to him if he will rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon’s castle.
Shrek agrees and heads off to rescue the princess, with Donkey along for the adventure.
When they arrive at the castle, Dragon finds Donkey alone and immediately falls for him.
Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona escape and return to Farquaad’s land.
However, it becomes apparent Princess Fiona isn’t exactly what she at first appears to be.
Princess Fiona is herself an ogre and falls for Shrek.
