Route 29 sidewalk discussions will begin with PennDOT

“I’m surprised by the amount of people who walk along the road (Route 29)” Supervisor Chairperson Daniel J. Mohr said in a discussion with fellow supervisor John D. Zgura, about whether or not a sidewalk should be added in the planned Pennsylvaia Department of Transportation project for Route 29.

Both supervisors discussed the amount of pedestrians walking along Chestnut Street from Weis Markets for the next few blocks until about Yocco’s Hot Dogs, which is a three-mile stretch. Potential taxpayers costs, winter plowing responsibility and safety of pedestrians who currently walk along the road were raised as key factors on consideration and discussion with PennDOT. A motion was passed in favor of pursuing this.

Robert Mutchler Jr. tendered his resignation as chairman of the recreation commission. Supervisor Joyce Moore reflected on Mutcher’s work on the recreation committee, offering “much gratitude for his years of service.” John Welch was appointed to take over Mutcher’s position for a term expiring Jan. 3, 2028. Welch was named to the open space committee for a term expiring Jan. 2, 2025.

In other committee changes, Charles Peters was appointed to the planning committee. Peters will hold this position until January 2023, finishing the late Judy Parker’s term.

A vote to advertise the 2023 budget passed by a vote 2-1, with Zgura voting against the motion.

On a final note, in a bid to better understand the needs of Upper Milford’s fire stations, the supervisors agreed an invitation should be sent to both the Vera Cruz Fire Company and the Upper Milford District Western Fire Company to attend a meeting.

The next Upper Milford Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St.
