Moore land protection board hears easement requests

The Moore Township Land and Environmental Protection Board activity increased as reported at the Nov. 1 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

There were five open space easement requests on the meeting agenda. The easements were for the Neff property, Potts property, Roland property, D. Miller property and the C. Miller property. All were approved by the board.

An easement is the grant of a non-possessory interest that provides the easement holder permission to use another person’s land. An easement is typically a restricted use of another person’s property, such as allowing a neighbor whose property is not directly on a public road to cross his neighbor’s property to retrieve his mail from the mailbox along the public road.

The land and environmental protection board’s mission is to advise the board on ways to reduce the use of and impact on the community’s natural resources and provide a continuous review of best practices and innovations. The protection board has a large footprint in the township as it aggressively pursues farmland and open space preservation.

In other business, the board reviewed a no-tax hike 2023 township budget. The real estate tax is expected to remain at 6 mills. The 2023 budget with no tax increase is expected to be finalized and voted on at the December meeting.

A copy of the 2023 budget will be available after adoption on the township website, mooretownship.org.

The Community Days committee is delighted as members look back on another successful year. The annual Community Days event held in August was a success with high attendance. The committee looks forward to another banner year in 2023 but is seeking additional volunteers to support the efforts. Contact the township office to volunteer.

The recreation committee is considering installing a gaga ball court at the recreation center. This could add to the disc golf course and the pickleball court at the center, increasing the diversity of activities at the park.

Gaga ball is a game much like dodge ball. It originated in Israel around 1970 and spread when Israeli sports counselors brought the game to summer camps around the world. The game is played on an octagon-shaped court.

Gaga ball is a fast-moving, high-energy game that keeps children engaged and active. The game requires no special athletic skill or ability and is enjoyed by people of all ages.

The recreation committee may seek the construction of a gaga ball court as a potential Eagle Scout project.

The Moore Township Athletic Association also requested and received renewal of its small games of chance license. This approval allows the association to sell small games of chance such as monthly lotto calendars and other games.

The next Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the municipal building, 2491 Community Drive, Bath. It is an in-person-only meeting.
