Big time college wrestling is coming to the Lehigh Valley this weekend and it will be somewhere you might not expect.
Liberty’s Memorial Gymnasium will host the Wrangle Mania Duals presented Journeymen Wrestling beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The event will host eleven major college programs including Arizona State, Army, University of Buffalo, Lehigh University, Lock Haven University, Long Island University, University of Nebraska, NC State University, University of Oklahoma, Rutgers University and Sacred Heart University.
Liberty athletic director Fred Harris is thrilled to have a venue like Memorial Gymnasium be the host for such an event.
“Over the summer, Frank Popoluzio contacted me from Journeymen Wrestling to seek out bringing one of his collegiate events to Liberty,” said Harris. “Memorial Gymnasium, with all its rich history, was the preferred destination, and we are thrilled to be a part of it. Strong high school wrestling is a part of who we are here in the Valley and Memorial Gymnasium is its cathedral.
“To host so many highly regarded collegiate teams in the same place where so many state and national champions have passed before in their high school years is a treat for the local wrestling fans and tip of the cap to the hallowed hall of Liberty’s Memorial Gymnasium.”
Some of the top matches on afternoon include Lehigh taking on Oklahoma at 3 p.m., Arizona State and Rutgers squaring off at 5 p.m. and Nebraska and NC State at 5 p.m. as well.
Tickets are on sale online at www.journeymenwrestling.com or at the door. Tickets are $30 adults, $25 for students. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. Concessions will be available.
