Emmaus boys place third at district meet

The Emmaus boys cross country team ran a solid race to earn a third-place finish last Wednesday at the District 11 3A cross country championship at DeSales University.

The Hornets finished with 87 points behind champion Parkland and second-place Nazareth in the 102-boy field. They also advanced three runners to this weekend’s state meet in Hershey.

“We have remained realistic and made sure to keep goals relative for where they are at as a team,” Emmaus coach Kami Reinhard said. She added she and the coaching staff were pleased with the results.

Conor Fisher led Emmaus with an eighth-place finish in 17:19.

“Conor is only a sophomore, but well respected,” Emmaus coach Kami Reinhard said.

Senior Sam Dalton was the next Emmaus runner to cross the stripe at the 17:43 mark, good for 14th place. Sophomore Jared Petre rounded out Emmaus’ top 20 finishers, with a 16th place ranking in 17:46.

Fisher, Dalton and Petre all qualified for states as they were among the top 10 runners who were not part of state qualifying teams. They will join the Hornet girls team at Saturday’s state championships.

Emmaus junior Tyler Finck took 23rd place with a 18:07 time, while senior Brett Pevec claimed 26th at 18:18 to round out the Hornets’ top five. Sophomore Richard Will (30th) and senior Oscar Felegy (38th) were also part of Emmaus’ district team.

Parkland junior Paul Abeln won the boys individual district title in 16:50, with Nazareth’s Giovanni Mastromonaco (15:57) taking second place.
