Fisher leads boys to third place

The Emmaus boys cross country team ran a spirited race to earn a third-place finish last Tuesday at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference cross country championship at DeSales University.

The Green Hornets finished with 93 points behind champion Parkland and second-place Nazareth in the field of 137 boys runners. Conor Fisher led Emmaus with an 11th-place finish in 17:12. Teammate Sam Dalton was the next Emmaus runner to cross the stripe at the 17:38 mark, good for 15th place. Sophomore Jared Petre rounded out the Emmaus’ top 20 finishers, with a 19th-place ranking in 17:45.

Tyler Finck took 21st place with a 17:57 time, while senior Oscar Felegy neared the end of a solid high school running career with a 28th-place finish in 18:10. Another senior, Brett Pevec, clocked in at 18:18 and 10th grader Richard Will finished one second behind Felegy for 31st.

Sean Daubert, Ryan Fach and Dominic Nunez rounded out the Emmaus contingent.

The Emmaus boys have had a fine season, and part of the reason for that is the Emmaus cross country coaching staff.

Assistant coach Robert Gallagher is a distinguished runner, having run 17 Boston Marathons.

“Robert loves running and racing, and has already passed on his passion to the team and was a big asset this year,” Emmaus head coach Kami Reinhard said.

Page Woodbury is the “eyes and ears” of the boys team and invests much time into the program.

“Page has been an anchor for the boys team, and there is nothing but full admiration for him among the student athletes and coaching staff,” Reinhard said.

Kristen Susens as been part of the program longer than anyone. She serves as a biology teacher at Emmaus High School.

“There isn’t enough space to list how much she has helped our student athletes and coaching staff over the years,” Reinhard said. “She is just full of love and fun, which the kids really need most days.”

The District 11 championship meet is scheduled for Oct. 26 at DeSales University.
