Good news for Upper Milford Western District Fire Company #1.
At the Upper Milford Township Community Day Oct. 1, word came of a $485,000 state grant awarded to help the fire company’s efforts to upgrade to a 3,500 gallon tanker truck from its current truck, a 1990 International Tanker.
The new truck is anticipated to arrive in the township in late 2024 or early 2025, according to a news release.
Upper Milford Western District Fire Co., 6341 Chestnut St., Zionsville, is a volunteer organization, with 30 firefighters and fire police.
Congratulations to Upper Milford Western District Fire Company.
In keeping with those who go above and beyond to help their community, Veterans Day is Nov. 11. Many government and municipal offices will be closed in observance of the day. Call ahead if you plan to visit municipal offices.
Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will host its 25th annual bazaar and filled basket auction 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12. Crafters, vendors and a bake sale also will be featured.
A communitywide Thanksgiving service is scheduled 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at Salem United Methodist Church, 6440 Powder Valley Road Zionsville. Jenny Fujita, pastor of Upper Milford Mennonite Church, will preach.
All are welcome to the service, according to organizers.
Also worth noting around Thanksgiving is the end of the season for the farmers market at the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St. The market is held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays starting in May. Stop by before the season ends.
And if your route takes you near Lenape Park, 6102 King’s Highway South, take a moment to admire the impressive upgrades to the baseball fields.
Back when my summer athletic efforts took me and my dad to the park for softball practice and games, local farmers would grade or smooth the fields with a twin or full bed box spring, fabric and batting removed, pulled behind a tractor, if memory serves. How times have changed.
