Open 45 hours a week, the Emmaus Public Library is working hard to stay up-to-date with e-books, seminars and workshops for local residents.
Maryellen Kanarr, library director of the Emmaus Public Library, did a presentation at the Oct. 20 Upper Milford Board of Supervisors’ meeting, focused on the initiatives to keep things current and of interest to all residents.
Kanarr explained among the benefits, a resident can sign-up online for a library card at emmauspl.org. This will allow for immediate access to e-books. Furthermore, the library is open 45 hours a week. Depending on the day, special workshops and other activities are open to the public.
With a budget of $370,000, of which $254,000 is attributed to payroll for 10 staff, Kanarr made the point they utilize their funds as best as possible. Also, those employed at the library only work a few hours a week and do not receive benefits.
In other business, a proposed vending machine for Lenape Park, a township park, was discussed. Location and security were of main concern, as well as what Pepsi Co. is requiring from the township for possible negotiations.
With the understanding that Pepsi Co. will not draft a contract without a preliminary approval from the township, a motion was passed by the board to move ahead with the process.
Finally, there was discussion about the possible purchase of a wheel loader as per the draft budget.
The township’s current wheel loader dates from 2006.
The budget is scheduled to be presented later this month with a final vote in December.
