Virginia Ann Hower

Virginia “Ginny” Ann Hower, 90, of Northampton, died Oct. 28, 2022. She was the wife of the late Warren ”Washy” H. Hower for 68 years.

Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Earl W. and Marion I. (Fritzinger) Heckman.

She was a 1950 graduate of Northampton High School where she played clarinet in the band and orchestra and was on the yearbook staff.

She was an office worker at Kinzel’s Appliance Store, Northampton; a typist at PP&L; and a cafeteria cashier and custodian in the Northampton Area School District.

She was a former Sunday school teacher and a Girl Scout and Brownie leader.

She is survived by three sons, Jay of Northampton, Earl and his wife Shelley of Leesburg, Va., and James and his wife Amy of Northampton; a daughter, Jean Susko and her husband David of Nesquehoning; several grandchildren, Dr. Jeremiah Hower and his wife Melody of Florida, Michael Hower of Leesburg, Va., Jennifer Alvarado and her husband Anthony, Justin Litwin and Emily Hower of Northampton and Michaela Susko of Nesquehoning; and four great-grandchildren, Sebastian of Massachusetts, Juliet and Natalie of Florida and Gracie Mae of Pennsylvania; nieces; and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Jane Litwin; a son-in-law, Charles Litwin; a brother, Donald Heckman; and a sister, Carol (Heckman) Luther.

There will be a calling time 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service 11 a.m., Nov. 3 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Howertown, 22 Atlas Road, Northampton, 18067.

Contributions may be made to the church or to a charity of one’s choice.
