Phyllis F. Handwerk, 80, of North Whitehall Township, died Sept. 20, 2022, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. She was the wife of Allen W. Handwerk for 48 years.

Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late George Y. and Estelle (Wasnak) Fetzer.

She was a graduate of Allentown High School, then East Stroudsburg State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, and Lehigh University, from which she earned a master’s degree in reading education.

She was a teacher in the Allentown School District for 35 years before retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Whitehall. She served on numerous church committees.

She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for women educators.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Janet F. with Robert Holley of Summerville, S.C.; one nephew; two nieces; one great-nephew; and two great-nieces.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Nov. 5 at the church, 4331 Main St., Whitehall.
