LCCC to honor veterans

Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville, will honor veterans with several events during Veterans Appreciation Week, Nov. 7-12.

The Veterans Appreciation Celebration is set for 11 a.m. Nov. 9 in the cafeteria of the Academic Resource Center.

Veterans and military-affiliated students and families are invited to stop by and enjoy cake with the Veteran Support Team and Veterans Club members.

The Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 11, in front of the flagpoles at the Student Services Center.

All are invited to join the LCCC campus community to honor and remember those who have served.

Taking part in the ceremony will be members of the Louis E. Dieruff High School Air Force JROTC, as well as the Parkland High School Chorale.

Guest speaker is Russell Lande, U.S. Coast Guard veteran and 2021 graduate of the LCCC Commercial Drivers License program.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Student Union.

The “Faces of Honor” photo tribute will be on display throughout the week in the Student Services Center.

Photos feature members of the U.S. Armed Forces and include LCCC students, faculty, staff, alumni and family members.

The Veterans Club at LCCC is partnering with Victory House of the Lehigh Valley to provide winter donations to support the homeless veteran community.

Acceptable donations are jackets, gloves, hats, scarves and umbrellas, as well as underwear and socks.

Drop off is in the Office of Registration and Student Records in the Student Services Center.

Members of the community are invited to take photos of themselves and friends in front of the Respect, Honor and Gratitude lawn display at the Student Services Center flagpoles.

Share your photo on Instagram and tag #LCCCTheHonor to be entered into a raffle.

The week of celebrations will conclude with the 5K Ruck ’n Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Nov. 12, in Bicentennial Park West, Bethlehem.

Lehigh Valley colleges, universities, businesses and community members are coming together to honor veterans.

Proceeds benefit Victory House of the Lehigh Valley.
