Trojans beat Becahi

The Parkland High School football team has finally found its groove and has a lot of positive momentum on its side. Playing fairly healthy for the first time this regular season, the Trojans won for the third time in a row with a convincing 38-14 win over Bethlehem Catholic last Saturday night in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South Division game.

“Offensively, you saw balance in the run and pass game on sustained drives,” said assistant coach Mike Facchiano on the Becahi win. “On defense, I feel that our front seven played consistently and put Becahi into second down and long or third and long situations.”

The Trojans needed just six plays to reach the end zone on their opening drive as junior Trey Tremba gave his team the lead with a one-yard TD run with 9:45 left in the first quarter. That was just the start of an opening quarter scoring burst for Parkland (5-3 overall, 3-3 EPC South) as it was able to put the game out of reach early.

Wide receiver Nakhi Bullock added a 16-yard scoring run and quarterback Luke Spang completed a 48-yard touchdown to Tremba to give Parkland a 21-0 advantage in the first quarter. James Scott blocked a punt to set up an eight-yard reception by senior Jack Harrison in the end zone in the second quarter. Senior kicker Gryffin Mitsifer added a 43-yard field goal, and the Trojans took a 31-0 advantage into halftime. Marquez Wimberly capped the Parkland scoring with a 20-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

Tremba rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. He caught two passes for 77 yards and a score. Spang completed 14 of 23 passes for 212 yards and two scores. Harrison caught four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans defense held the Hawks to 103 yards of total offense and zero points in the first half.

Parkland will now look forward to its home regular season finale and senior day on Friday night against Liberty at Parkland School District Stadium. The Hurricanes are 2-6 overall and 0-6 in the EPC South. They are coming off a 26-7 home loss to Easton last weekend.

“Liberty’s skill kids, especially their quarterback, Tommy Mason, can hurt you with their speed and athleticism,” Facchiano said. “Their zone run game is effective and they can spread you out running or passing. We also know they are well coached, especially with a familiar face in Coach [Frank] Lane serving as their offensive coordinator.”

With rival Emmaus looming the following weekend on the road, this is an important one to get for the Trojans.
