School bus safety is a high priority in Pennsylvania. Parents, teachers, administrators, transportation personnel and motorists all play an important role in keeping children safe while on or around the school bus.

Catasauqua Area School District has launched a new school bus safety program to make roads safer for all students. All school buses in CASD are now equipped with safety technology including stop-arm cameras to detect the license plates of drivers that illegally pass stopped school buses.

All motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Motorists must stop when they are behind a school bus, meeting the school bus or approaching an intersection where a school bus is stopped. Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm is withdrawn. All motorists must adhere to the Pennsylvania school bus stopping law.
