Falcons fall to Pine Grove, drop to 0-8 on the season

Salisbury fell to 0-8 with a 23-13 loss to Pine Grove last Friday on the Falcons’ homecoming.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Cardinals got on the board on their second possession of the game when Mason Kroh ran in from a yard out to cap a 14-play, 68-yard drive and get his team a 7-0 lead.

Pine Grove forced a three-and-out before its next possession resulted in a four-play drive capped by Kroh’s 34-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead.

Salisbury didn’t take long to respond as Nick Beck returned the ensuing kick off 89 yards for a score.

The Falcon defense forced a three-and-out to keep the momentum with the home team. Salisbury took over and marched 55 yards in seven plays, scoring on an 11-yard Jacob Bucchin run to cut the lead to 14-13.

The Falcon defense came up with another big stop in the fourth quarter when it held strong after a Pine Grove first and goal from the 3-yard line.

After forcing a turnover on downs, the Falcon offense couldn’t move the ball and eventually was pinned for a safety.

Salisbury’s offense was unable to score any more in the contest and the Cardinals got a fourth-quarter touchdown to seal the win.

Pine Grove rushed for 296 yards in the game, led by Lane Lehman’s 209 yards on 31 carries.

George Spann led the Salisbury rushing attack with 52 yards on eight carries. Beck went 4-for-11 passing for 63 yards.

The Falcons have two games remaining this season. They host North Schuylkill (6-2) Friday before traveling to Catty (5-3) for the season finale on Oct. 28.
