East Allen reminds residents of FRCA’s drop-off guidelines
At its Oct. 12 meeting, East Allen Township Board of Supervisors discussed an issue that is causing concerns at First Regional Compost Authority, located at 6701 Weaversville Road.
Under the FRCA agenda item, it was reported people are placing metal and other “garbage” with the brush being dropped off at the authority.
A supervisor noted a 2-foot-by-10-inch piece of steel went into the FRCA grinder, which is used to break down brush. When the grinder hit the steel as it rotated at a high rate of speed, the grinder was severely damaged.
The supervisor said he was told people have dropped off concrete blocks hidden in their brush drop-offs.
“It is a shame to see brand-new equipment ruined,” the supervisor noted.
Supervisors want the general public to be aware of what is not allowed at FRCA. Visit frcaweb.org or call 610-262-1000 to learn what is allowed and not allowed to be dropped off at the site.
In other business, township Manager Brent Green reported the township planning commission “is very busy as they are looking at use criteria for developments.”
One of many duties of a municipal planning commission is to prepare, recommend and administer subdivision and land development and planned residential development regulations and usage.
In other news, the board approved resolution 2022-No. 22 adopting the East Allen Township emergency operation plan that was revised October 2022.
A recommendation to uplift the 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 pickup truck, not to exceed $17,500, was approved by the board.
Green reported the East Allen Township Open Space and Farmland Preservation Committee recently met to discuss its next steps as it moves toward preserving open space and farmland. To join this group, contact the township office.
Green also reported the River Central Regional Consortium’s first draft of the comprehensive plan is complete. Public comments will be accepted, and the consortium will present comments at its November meeting.
The consortium hopes to adopt the plan in January 2023.
Also at the meeting, there was a discussion about the township’s parks, recreation and open space plan. There are plans to pursue grants to assist the development of the park system in East Allen Township.
The next board of supervisors meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd.
The meeting is hybrid, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org for the call-in number and access code to view virtually.
