ACCHS athletes shine

Allentown Central Catholic High School athletics are looking strong, after the football team’s win 35-0 over East Stroudsburg North Oct. 20 at J. Birney Crum Stadium, Allentown.
The football team, cheerleading squad and the band also celebrated their senior night at this unique Thursday night game.
The Vikings improved their record to 5-4, as they prepare for this week’s Holy War against Bethlehem Catholic High School. The big game will take place Oct. 28 at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium, 1115 Linden St., Bethlehem.
In other athletic news, Central’s basketball team won the Lehigh Valley Varsity Fall Jamfest League Championship Oct. 20. The team beat East Stroudsburg North 34-33 with a buzzer-beating shot.
Maksym Komperda, who now holds the record for the most goals in a soccer season at 43, was named The Morning Call Athlete of the Week.
The second annual ACCHS lacrosse alumni game will be played 1 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Grange Field in Allentown. If interested, RSVP by filling out the Google Form at https://forms.gle/zhJFBMJSSmwigXn6A. Email acchsboyslacrosse@gmail.com with any questions.
Finally, legendary basketball coach Mike Kopp was inducted into the District XI Hall of Fame Oct. 17 in recognition of his immense success with Central athletics.
Fall sports awards will be held Nov. 15, where all varsity letter-winners will be honored for their hard work during their season.
The ACCHS Music Department is holding a sneaker drive through Oct. 28. Used sneakers may be dropped off in the bin located by the media center. Funds will benefit Central’s musicians.
Senior Week will run Nov. 7 through Nov. 11. Seniors will be recognized through a variety of activities and events during the week.
Central’s Fall Open House and Viking Christmas is scheduled 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 13. Central spirit wear will be available for purchase in Rockne Hall during the open house. Viking Christmas is an excellent opportunity to support ACCHS athletics, clubs and activities while purchasing Christmas gifts for the whole family!
During the open house, prospective families will be able to meet the administration, students and teachers and will learn about Campus Ministry, sports and extracurricular activities. Several service hour opportunities are available to any ACCHS student. Our Lady Help of Christians Church is holding a “Night at the Races” event 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the parish social hall, 934 Hanover Ave., Allentown. Any student wishing to volunteer should email ourladyhlp@aol.com or call 610-432-9384.
The Mercy School for Special Learning is hosting a cornhole tournament Nov. 12, and volunteers are needed. Visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e44abab2aa7fdc52-mercy and choose a time slot convenient for you.
Finally, St. Francis of Assisi Church is holding a designer handbag bingo Nov. 20. Organizers need three students to set up 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 and five people 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 20.
