Football gets another win, Dieruff next

Northampton ‘s Jaelen Richardson isn’t surprised about his team’s 8-0 start this season, one that has been nearly flawless.

“We still have some things to clean up, but our offense has been heading in the right direction,” said the senior wide receiver and defensive back. “Our defense has dominated the whole season, and we look forward to continuing to play complimentary football to shut teams down and get the ball back to the offense.”

Richardson had two catches for 43 yards and also had two rushes for 32 yards in the Konkrete Kids’ latest victory, a 48-0 shutout over Pocono Mountain East. The Kids have scored 386 points and have allowed 46. Their defense has pitched three shutouts.

They will look to put the finishing touches on capturing the East Penn Conference North crown when they travel to Allentown to meet Dieruff Friday.

Against Pocono Mountain East, the Kids amassed 330 yards of total offense - 199 rushing and 141 passing – and allowed a meager 33 yards of total offense to their opponents, who didn’t have any yards passing.

Head coach John Toman also has been surprised with his team efforts and an absence of any letdowns.

“We took care of business and did what we needed to do,” he said. “We came out healthy and executed well.

“I am not surprised we have continued to play well. My staff does a great job preparing the team, and they love playing football on Friday nights.”

Richardson hopes to set a new interception record before season’s end. He has four and the team mark is seven.

“That would be great if I can do it,” he said. “I always have played in the secondary growing up and been a wide receiver.

“But the big thing for us is how we continue to play. Antonino (Russo) has been doing a great job at quarterback. Our (offensive) line has been creating holes for Caden (Henritzy) and protecting Nino. Myself and all of the receivers are having big plays in the passing game.

“We are focused on finishing the season undefeated and going into the playoffs with full head of steam, ready to play any team.”

NOTES AND PREDICTION: Dieruff surprisingly will enter the game with a two-game winning streak, their latest was a 50-6 win over East Stroudsburg North. In that game, the Huskers (2-6) had 164 yards passing and 113 yards rushing. They had lost their first six games ... Henritzy had a team-high 67 yards rushing with a touchdown. Russo had another efficient game, going 9 of 10 for 141 yards with a touchdown. Kids had 22 first downs ... Kids first eight opponents had a combined 19 wins … Toman referred to Dieruff as being “very athletic” and a team that “throws a lot of formations on offense. Defensively, they run several schemes, so we will need to adjust in game to what they are doing.” ... This is an amazing run for the Kids, who have won 18 straight regular-season games. There aren’t any signs that this should slow down. However, Dieruff could make it tight for a little bit. Coach Ronalds can stop by at Zandy’s on the way home and pick me up a cheesesteak ... K-KIDS, 38-14 .
