NAHS cheerleaders approved to compete at Disney

After the Northampton Area High School Konkrete Kids varsity football team season, the Northampton cheerleaders plan to travel to Disney World.
At the Oct. 10 meeting, the Northampton Area School District Board of Education approved the attendance of 20 cheerleaders at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Nationals, set for Feb. 9-13, 2023, at Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Fla. They will be accompanied by Kayla Cowitch, Mia Guadanino, Courtney Kokolus, Lindsey Fenstermacher, Suzanne Metz, Aubrey Reeves and Gwen Russell at the 2023 National High School Cheerleading Championship.
The cost to NASD is $330, according to the meeting agenda.
In other business at the meeting Oct. 10, school directors voted 8-0 to approve Wendy Arner, long-term substitute certified school nurse, effective Oct. 11, for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year, at a prorated salary of $57,955; Ashley O’Brien, 12-month school psychologist, effective no later than Dec. 12, at $80,809, prorated with benefits; Laura Karns, special education teacher, Lehigh Elementary School, effective no later than Jan. 3, 2023, at $64,849, prorated with benefits; Brendan Schlegel, 10-month district school police officer, effective Jan. 3, 2023, at $42,840, prorated; Brenda Oswald, cafeteria monitor, Franklin Elementary School building, retroactive to Oct. 4, at $15.87 per hour; Jill Nevenglosky, 12-month curriculum secretary, effective Oct. 24, at $21.86 per hour, with benefits; and Philip Wasko, middle-shift maintenance worker, effective Oct. 24, at $24.89 per hour, with benefits.
School-based behavioral health counselors Steffanie Breininger, effective Oct. 24 through June 30, 2024, and Jennifer Getz, Nov. 11 through June 30, 2024, were approved at $60,303 each, prorated. These positions are paid for through the American Rescue Plan Set-Aside Grant and Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Mental Health and Safety and Security Grant, at no cost to the district for this additional counseling position.
Board members approved the resignations of Eric Schoeneberger, maintenance, effective Sept. 16; Lindsey Strunk, cafeteria monitor, effective Sept. 19; and Maggy Alexander-Michel, curriculum secretary, effective Sept. 14. Robin Zamadics, special education teacher, was approved for retirement, effective Jan. 8, 2023.
The Act 34 public hearing on the proposed new elementary school and education center on the district’s Route 329 property is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Northampton Area Middle School cafeteria, 1617 Laubach Ave., Northampton.
The NASD Board of Education next meets 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in the NAHS auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave., Northampton.
