THE GREAT ALLENTOWN FAIR WINNING RECIPE Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Terry Ebert, Laurys Station, first place

Grumpy Old Man’s Apple (and a little Pineapple) Pie

Crust: (Makes 1 double-crust pie)

3 cups sifted flour

3/4 cup white Crisco

1/4 cup butter Crisco

1 tsp. salt

1 egg

5 T. cold water

1 T. white vinegar

Mix all ingredients with fork and knead until silky. Form two balls. Refrigerate 1/2 to 1 hour before rolling out dough.

Filling:

4 cups yellow delicious apple, peeled and sliced

1 cup crushed pineapple in syrup, undrained

2/3 cup sugar

3 T. flour

1 tsp. cinnamon

Combine apples, pineapple, sugar, flour and cinnamon in large bowl, mix well.

Pour into unbaked pie shell.

Use second dough ball for cover or for lattice top.

Brush with egg white.

Dust with sugar and cinnamon

Bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
