Results of commercial vehicle enforcement released
Multiple Lehigh County law enforcement agencies conducted a joint commercial motor vehicle enforcement effort Sept. 20 with a goal of reducing commercial motor vehicle crashes in Lehigh County.
The program, Coordinating Resources to Advance Safer Highways or C.R.A.S.H., is an effort designed to bring state and municipal agencies together to jointly conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections and traffic enforcement in and around the Interstate 78 corridor, according to a news release dated Sept. 22.
Local participating agencies included Allentown City, Emmaus and Salisbury police departments and Pennsylvania State Police.
Officers and troopers issued citations and warnings including one earning each for failure to obey traffic control devices, following too close and speeding; two warnings concerning local laws and three warnings for using a handheld telephone.
Authorities also issued 13 warnings and 15 citations for failing to use a seat belt while operating a commercial vehicle.
According to motor carrier assistance program data released about the enforcement detail, officers and troopers conducted 49 inspections, 43 inspections with violations, issued 18 drivers citations and 40 driver warnings.
Authorities issued four vehicle defect citations and 18 vehicle defect warnings. No vehicles were determined as overweight. Other data included five drivers and three vehicles out of service.
All agencies participating in the detail are as follows: Pennsylvania State Police, Catasauqua Police Department, South Whitehall Township Police Department, Emmaus Borough Police Department, Salisbury Township Police Department, Upper Macungie Township Police Department, City of Allentown Police Department and the Pennsylvania Utility Commission.
