Ordinances approved for water issues throughout the township
At the Oct. 6 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, ordinances for storm sewer systems, Little Lehigh Basin stormwater management and the Perkiomen Creek headwaters Act 167 for stormwater management were discussed.
Ordinance 2022-03 repealed Chapter 23C which involves Lower Macungie’s separate storm sewer systems.
Ordinance 2022-04 amends Chapter 23A which involves Little Lehigh Basin stormwater for consistency and adds DEP MS4 requirements.
Ordinance 2022-05 amends Chapter 23B which includes the Perkiomen Creek headwaters Act 167 for stormwater management for consistency and adds DEP MS4 requirements.
These ordinances involve prohibited discharges, adding definitions, reinstating others and clarifying regulated activities in the Little Lehigh watershed. It also includes drainage plan requirements, erosion and sedimentation control and discusses inspections.
These ordinances were all approved unanimously.
Resolution 2022-68 allows for approving the agreement renewal for Hough Associates to collect recycling data and prepare the recycling grant application. The commissioners approved this.
The Sewer Planning Module for Woodmont Phase II was considered.
Macungie’s Borough Manager, John Brown, sent correspondence to Lower Macungie Township to request use of roads for detour purposes during the Macungie Halloween Parade. This was approved.
The Department of Labor and Industry sent notice of certification renewal of the workplace safety committee.
Jack Breiner was appointed to fill a vacancy on the environmental advisory board with his term to end Jan. 1, 2023.
Engineer Bryan McAdam spoke about the sanitary sewer project. There has been a bit of a delay due to staffing problems. But Lower Macungie Township has been advised the project will be completed shortly.
A late paving project should be completed this month. The project includes Antique Lane and Clearview Manor. Further details can be found on the township website www.lowermac.com.
There will be budget workshops held at the township building 6 p.m. Oct. 12, 17 and 31.
There was an executive meeting after the Sept. 15 meeting to discuss personnel and potential land acquisition. There was another executive meeting Sept. 26 after the workshop to discuss personnel and potential litigation.
Resolution 2022-69 was approved for cost-sharing with the East Penn School District for the crossing guards at Willow Lane Elementary School. This was approved 3-2 with Commissioner Ron Beitler expressing his reasons for rejecting this. He suggested the district look into getting a grant for this.
