Douglas Daniel Dodge
Douglas Daniel Dodge, 89, of Northampton, died peacefully Oct. 1, 2022, surrounded by his family in his home.
Born on May 10, 1933, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the eldest son of the late Charles and Alberta “Bertie” (Brown) Dodge.
He and his wife, Bonnie L. (Sysko), celebrated 25 years of marriage.
A graduate of Syracuse University, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in production management.
He later earned his Master’s degree in business administration from Lehigh University.
He served as executive vice president, general manager and director of Dent Manufacturing before becoming CEO and owner of the company.
Before Dent Manufacturing, he worked for the Sheridan Company, Easton, Lehigh Valley Electronics, Fogelsville, Dixie Cup American Can, Easton, and Colgate-Palmolive in New Jersey.
He served on the board at Fairview Savings and Loan in Easton for many years. He was an Eagle Scout.
He proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army as an SP3 and subsequently in the U.S. Navy as a naval intelligence officer, eventually serving a two-year term as base commanding officer of FIRSTEURNLT 0693 from 1983-84 and eventually retiring honorably as a captain in the U.S. Navy after 33 years in 1993.
He loved to help people and always had a smile.
A wonderful husband and father, he will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Timothy D., Dr. Peter M. and wife, Akemi, and Charles and wife, Judalyn; daughter Victoria Bridges and husband, Tim; grandchildren Ruby, Aina, Emily, Spencer and James; sister Diane Grinnell; and special friend, Grant A. Shimer.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard “Red,” and beloved dog, Patience.
There will be no funeral services as he requested to be donated to Humanity Gifts Registry in Philadelphia so he can continue to help people in need.
