Trojans excel at EPC Tourney

The Parkland girls tennis team capped the East Penn Conference regular season with a spectacular performance at the league championship tournament.

Trojans players were crowned champions in five of six brackets at the event and a sixth Parkland player earned a second-place finish at the event.

Leah Zolotareva took first place in the No. 2 singles bracket, beating Sadie Jacobs of East on the title match.

Gigi Leonzi earned the No. 3 singles title, beating Easton’s Suhanni Makwana in the final.

Parkland swept the doubles brackets at the league championships.

Anshika Gupta and Sophia Petrocelli took first place at No. 2 doubles, while teammates Sophie Elijovich an Aarohi Vaze, who were seeded second at No. 3 doubles, beat the top seeded pairing from Stroudsburg in the title match.

at No. 4 doubles, Kiera Miles and Ali Silman won all of their matches to take the crown.

At No. 1 singles, Trojan freshman Lexi Warsing was seeded second and made it to the final match where top-seeded Helena Lynn (Liberty) took the title.

This week’s District 11 singles tournament was pushed back to Thursday and Friday because of rain early in the week. Warsing is seeded second for districts, while Zolotareva is seeded fifth and Leonzi sixth.

The District 11 team tournament will get underway next week. Parkland (16-0) will be the top seed in Class 3A. District doubles championships will follow a week after the team tournament.
