Douglas Daniel Dodge

Douglas Daniel Dodge, 89, of Northampton, died peacefully Oct. 1, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family. He and his wife, Bonnie L. (Sysko), celebrated 25 years of marriage. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the eldest son of the late Charles and Alberta “Bertie” (Brown) Dodge.

He was a graduate of Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in production management. He later earned his MBA degree in business administration from Lehigh University.

He served as executive vice president, general manager and director of Dent Manufacturing before becoming CEO/owner of the company. Before Dent Manufacturing, he worked for the Sheridan Company, Easton; Lehigh Valley Electronics, Fogelsville; Dixie Cup American Can, Easton and Colgate-Palmolive, N. J.

He served on the board at Fairview Savings and Loan, Easton, for many years.

He was an Eagle Scout. He proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army as an SP3 and subsequently in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Intelligence Officer, eventually serving a two-year term as base commanding officer of FIRSTEURNLT 0693 from 1983 to 1984 and eventually retiring honorably as a captain in the U.S. Navy after 33 years in 1993.

He loved to help people and always had a smile. He was a wonderful husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Timothy D., Dr. Peter M. and his wife, Akemi, Charles and his wife, Judalyn; daughter, Victoria and her husband, Tim Bridges; grandchildren, Ruby, Aina, Emily, Spencer, James; sister, Diane Grinnell; special friend, Grant A. Shimer. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard “Red” and beloved dog, Patience.

Contributions may be made to the Northampton VFW Post 4714, P.O. Box 282, Northampton, 18067 in his memory.

There will be no funeral services. He requested he be donated to Humanity Gifts Registry, Philadelphia so that he can continue to help people in need.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton.
