The Pennsylvania School Board Association presented the prestigious Allwein Society award to BASD director Dr. Karen Beck Pooley Sept. 26 for her service to the community. The Allwein Society was created in 2011 in memory of Timothy M. Allwein, a former PSBA staff member. Tim was known for his devotion to public education and worked tirelessly as an advocate for public awareness and the advancement of political action on behalf of public education.
The Allwein Society is a recognition program honoring school directors who are outstanding leaders and advocates for public school systems. Since its inception in 2011 there have been 12 prior recipients of this award, making Beck Pooley the 13th inductee. Board President Michael Faccinetto commended Beck Pooley on her tireless commitment and passion for community education and public education funding.
In addition to the Allwein Society presentation, the board introduced the student board representatives for the 2022-23 school year; Freedom HS’s Jasnelly Florian (Margaret Marshaleck – Alternate) and From Liberty HS Jessica Esch (Grace Daja – Alternate).
These representatives will provide the board with monthly accounts of events and activities happening at their respective schools.
