During the Upper Macungie supervisors’ Sept. 1 meeting, a proclamation was presented recognizing the volunteer fire departments.
Member Kathy Rader commented.
“The board of supervisors offers its help, heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the volunteer fire departments of Upper Macungie Township for their dedicated service to its residents,” she said. “The members of Good Will Fire Company No. 1, Trexlertown, Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company, and Upper Macungie Station 56 work selflessly on behalf of the people of this township regardless of the risk or hazard and truly our citizens serving the community.”
According to Rader, the Pennsylvania General Assembly through Act 87 of 2021 recognizes first responders including firefighters for carrying out the critical role of protecting and ensuring public safety and emergency situations.
Sept. 27 of each year is First Responders Day in addition to their role as fire suppression, EMS search and rescue, hazardous material response and critical fire prevention and safety education.
Firefighters are called upon for fire suppression, EMS search and rescue, hazardous material response, critical fire prevention and safety education and in the event of natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding.
This results in more than 100 firefighters each year across the United States losing their lives in the line of duty and thousands more being injured.
“Therefore, it was with great pride and sincere gratitude that the board of supervisors present this proclamation to the volunteer fire departments of Upper Macungie Township, duly presented by the board of supervisors of Upper Macungie Township this first day of September 2022 and lawful session duly assembled,” Rader said, adding each fire company will get one of these.
