SHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently enrolled in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.
Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. The people in my family include my father, Matt DeFazio, my mother, Kim DeFazio and my little sister, Gwyn DeFazio. I also have a dog named Max.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject has always been English class. I love to be able to have the ability to think creatively when reading a new book or creating a writing assignment. Writing is a large passion of mine and is one of my favorite creative outlets.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I have been named Lehigh Valley Live Honorable Mention Field Hockey All-Star, Offensive MVP 2021-22 on the Salisbury field hockey team, Female MVP 2021-22 on the Salisbury swim team, as well as receiving a fourth place district medal in the 100 meter breast stroke. I have also been named captain on both the field hockey team and the swim team.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. I am involved in SHS’s field hockey team, swim team and track and field team. I am also a member of student government, G.I.V.E club, student advisory and I hold the office position of secretary for Salisbury’s National Honor Society. I am also a Miller Keystone Blood Drive coordinator for SHS.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. After school I plan to attend Susquehanna University where I will major in journalism and continue my field hockey career.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to date is working to manage a busy schedule while keeping my grades up and performing well in sports. Despite this, I am extremely lucky to have a great support system that makes this challenge easy to overcome.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for my perseverance and hard work in the classroom by my teachers and on the field by my teammates and coaches. I’d also like to be remembered as a loyal friend, teammate and sister.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. The person I admire most is my little sister Gwyn. She works hard to be the very best she can be whether that be in school, on the field hockey field or just simply being a good friend. I aspire to be as smart and kind as she is one day.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. One piece of advice I have for my peers is that hard work pays off in the long run. It is important to work hard for what you plan to achieve in order for your goals to be met to their fullest potential.
