Ruth E. Shafer, 97, of Whitehall and a resident of ProMedica South, Bethlehem, died Sept. 18, 2022. She was the wife of the late Lamar K. Shafer.

Born in Coplay, she was a daughter of the late Sherwood B. and Myrtle E. (Knerr) Balliet.

She was a Coplay High School graduate.

She was a member of Coplay United Church of Christ.

She worked in office administration, waitressing and manufacturing.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Chandler of Wellsboro; two sons, Jeffrey and wife Joan of Whitehall and Curtis and wife Kathleen of Bethlehem; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Sherwood, Carl and Bruce Balliet; and two sisters, Francine Reinert and Mary Jane Michael.
