Roads continued to be a concern for Lower Milford Township

On Sept. 15, the Lower Milford board of supervisors held its regular board meeting of the month.

The meeting began without public comment and moved to the approval of reports.

The expenses for the township Aug. 17 to Sept. 13 totaled $96,593.

In reports, there was little to highlight other than some public works updates.

The public works department reported pothole repairs on Baus Road, East Mill Hill Road, Bensons Lane and Cassel Road. Additionally, the roads in the township were oiled and chipped. This was good news considering there were resident concerns regarding road conditions within the township secretary’s report.

In new business, the first item involved the minimum municipal obligation budget for 2023 and the pension plan for township employees. It was accepted by the board.

Next, a request was received from the Borough of Coopersburg Police and Fire Department asking for traffic control assistance for the Coopersburg Community Day Sept. 17. This was approved.

Following, the supervisors approved the authorization to sell and advertise the 1997 Mack dump truck. There are numerous repairs needed and the township is looking to salvage what can be. This was at the suggestion of the public works foreman. The truck will be for sale on Municibid.

Cowan Associates, Inc., requested the township provide a quote to produce a map of all roadway dedications along property lines to denote the widths. There are a few farms in the township looking for road dedications and the township needs to understand exactly the portions of the roads they own. The quote was approved.

Approval was needed for an over-the-cap payment for the preservation of the Fadil property. The township will pay $100 per acre if the property is over the cap. The cap in the township is 600 acres. The cost will be right around $10,000. An official decision will be made at the next meeting.

The supervisors next approved the authorization to use American Rescue Plan Act funds for certain Lower Milford Fall Festival costs. The township received the second installment of its ARPA funds the previous week in the amount of $211,417. The money will be used for tents and signage that total just over $1,000.

In new business, two special exception appeals were received for roof-mounted solar panels from two different residents of the borough. These were approved as well.

In correspondence, the first item was a Department of Environmental Protection notice of violation on 1499 Limeport Pike. It was determined an old oil heater reported to be empty was not and was leaking into the ground. Cleanup is already occurring.

The New Bethany Ministries made a request for donations. They wanted $2,000 to aid in addressing homelessness. This request was denied.

Last came a notice this is Lehigh County Emergency National Preparedness Month.

Following those few announcements, the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting is 7 p.m. Oct. 20. The address of the meeting is the Lower Milford Township municipal building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Coopersburg.
