The Catasauqua Fire Police’s third annual flea market, held Sept. 3, featured an assortment of new and used items for sale and good conversation with the volunteers holding the event, held at the training grounds, Race and Second streets.
The merchandise for sale included old, collectible jars and glass items for sale by Coplay resident Glenn Harris and shampoo and other personal care products by a couple from Allentown.
John Widrig’s vendor table had a wide variety of items, including a multicolored floor lamp and other household items. He said the sales in the morning were brisk and expressed high hopes for the rest of the day.
Total Fresh Express owner Richard Stokes operated a table with local foods, such as corn, watermelons, carrots, tomatoes and other fresh fruits and vegetables.
Harvey Emert, the longtime leader of the Catasauqua Fire Police, and his team of fire police, including Charlie Hetzel, Glen Hunsicker and Cody and Alicia Lick, were busy running the food stand. Hetzel is the annual hot dog chef, noting he has operated the hot dog grill at the flea market for many years.
Emert reported the number of vendors increased from previous years and he expected a busy day as the weather cooperated. The flea market is a major fundraising effort for the fire police, which also receives funding from the borough budget.
