Chamberlin earns East Allen planning seat
At the Aug. 25 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, supervisors appointed Martin Chamberlin to a seat on the township’s planning commission.
Chamberlin tendered his resignation from the township’s zoning hearing board before his appointment to the planning commission.
Chamberlin vacated his zoning position because he said he felt there was not enough activity. Township Manager Brent Greene noted the zoning hearing board met only one time so far in 2022, validating Chamberlin’s observation.
The planning commission role is busier than zoning because of the development and requests for development in the township. There are efforts to retain the rural nature of East Allen as evidenced by the recent work to preserve farmland and open spaces in the township.
In other business, the board approved the request for right-of-way and pedestrian traffic control device improvements at the Nor-Bath Trail and Airport Road. Also, a recommendation to adopt a stormwater management ordinance was approved by the board.
It was reported the township’s roadside mowing tractor received $1,000 in salvage for the township. It was anticipated the mower would fetch $750 in salvage value.
There was a discussion about and review of the utility permit process. The conclusion was to better coordinate communication between all elements of the decision making in the township.
The board approved sending the township treasurer and the township secretary to management leadership training during the fall. Training lasts one day a week, spanning several weeks, at a cost of $2,850 per employee.
Greene advocated for the training, as he attended about two years ago, and vouched for its quality and importance.
Greene requested and received board permission to pursue several grants, one of which is to fund the installation of accessible entry to the township municipal building. He also noted the township’s pollution reduction plan was completed via grants and did not cost the township any tax dollars.
