Lower Macungie Township seniors to meet Oct. 4 with a visit from Elvis

Lower Macungie Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library now offers auto renewals on eligible items. The book drop is open 24/7.
Outdoor Sunny Day Story time for ages 2-5 years old will be held 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesday or Wednesday Sept. 27 and 28 and Wednesdays Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 on the library’s front lawn. There will be Books & Babies Story time for ages 0-30 months old 10:15-11 a.m. Sept. 23 and 30 and Oct. 21 and 28.
Wee Play! for ages 0-30 months old will be held 10:15-11 a.m. Oct. 7 and 14.
Wigglers Story time for ages 2-3 years old will be held 10:30-11:15 a.m. Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27.
There will be a Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years old 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sept. 29 and Oct. 10.
Builders Club for K-5 students will be held 6:30-7:15 p.m. Sept. 26. This is an in-library building session with blocks, Legos or building sets.
Get In The Game for families is an opportunity to play your favorite games 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 27.
October Grab & Go Activity Kits are available beginning Oct. 3.
There will be a Pajama Story time 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 for children ages 2-6 years old.
Harry Deitz will discuss his latest book about Stanley Coveleski’s journey from the coal mines to the pitcher’s mound “Covey: A Stone’s Throw from a Coal Mine to the Hall of Fame” 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 3.
There will be a crafternoon with open-ended crafting for ages 5-12 years old 1:30-2:30 p.m. Oct. 5.
Creation Station Crafts for ages 2 and up will be held 10:30-11:15 a.m. Sept. 24 and Oct. 8 and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 Please register for only one session.
Books & Beyond will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 10 for adults to discuss books, music, movies, TV, travel and life.
Fall Fest 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 15 will offer family friendly fall games, crafts and activities.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 5 is “The Doctors Blackwell” by Janice P. Nimura. The book for Nov. 2 is “Plainsong” by Kent Haruf. The book club meets virtually.
The Friends of Lower Macungie Library are now accepting donations of gently used books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks on CD for the used book sale through Oct. 15. The Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24. There is no rain date.
There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th and the township 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot.
The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Oct. 4 and 18 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Elvis impersonator Jeff Krick will provide entertainment Oct. 4. Thanksgiving dinner tickets are on sale through Oct. 18.
The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the fire station at Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on fire prevention, fire truck tours, MedEvac helicopter, state police, coloring activities, Macungie Ambulance, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, free food and beverages and more.
The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold a Harvest Festival at the Bortz Log House in Wescosville 2-4 p.m. Oct. 9. House tours will be available.
The next meetings for the Lower Lehigh AARP will be held noon Oct. 13 and Nov. 3 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall. Dues are payable in October and November; bring both cards. The Church of the Good Shepherd, Alburtis, will hold its fall bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15. There will be crafts, attic treasures, a basket auction, bake sale and good food. New this year, there will be a quilt raffle.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff will hold the 17th annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 23. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.
The community center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 31.

Open gym has returned at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Yard waste center hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.
Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings will take place the day after your regular trash day through the week of Oct. 3. Curbside leaf collection begins the week of Oct. 17.
