LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Kaylee Weidaw keeping busy this fall

Kaylee Weidaw will make the most of her senior year at Catasauqua.

Weidaw scored one of her team’s two goals in a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame East Stroudsburg in their opener, and she will be running cross country this fall.

It is two scenarios of a busy four-sport career for Weidaw. She also plays basketball and runs track.

There isn’t much for any other activity, but Weidaw wouldn’t want it any other way.

“It gets me away from life,” she said. “I wouldn’t want it any other way. I like to stay busy, and sports are my escape.”

Head girls’ soccer coach Kayla Cunningham has looked to Weidaw for her experience on a young, maturing club.

“Kaylee is our leader on the field,” stressed Cunningham. “She had a tremendous work ethic, and is an inspiration to the younger girls on the team.

“She has taken the lead role on and off the field for us. Kaylee is a major scoring threat, and she will have a big year.”

Since she was little, soccer has been a major priority for her. She recently stopped playing travel soccer because she reached the highest playing level.

Weidaw remembers her freshman year well when she scored her first varsity goal and the team’s lone tally on senior night. It proved to be a sign of the times to come, as she has been among the team’s leading scorers the past three years.

“I will always remember that,” she stated. ‘It was a big moment for me. That really helped me with my confidence as well.

“Now, I have to go out there and do it again in my senior night.”

Weidaw has managed to develop a cross country career during soccer, a sport she began as a freshman. She knows basketball is around the corner, and has participated in the sport over the years.

It has been a constant juggle, but it is a productive one.

“I always have liked to run, and I wanted to give it a try,” she said about cross country. “It is a sport that I can work on alone.

“Even if I don’t have a good run, I know I can come out and try and do better next time. I have to work on my time to get better.”

Weidaw joined the team after being recruited by head coach Kyle Rusnock, and the coach hasn’t been disappointed.

“Kaylee always has run hard,” said Rusnock. “She really has improved her time and her form.

“Kaylee has done a great job with the younger runners, and they look up to her. She is a very selfless athlete.”

Weidaw wants to pursue a career working in the radiology field, and plans to attend Northampton Community College next fall. When she isn’t playing a sport, Weidaw enjoys camping with her family.

But for the next several months, Weidaw likely will be the busiest athlete at Catasauqua.
