Free VIN etching event Sept. 20

The Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force will host a VIN-etching event Sept. 20 at AAA East Central, 2072 Downyflake Lane, Allentown.

The free event will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Drivers who participate will have their Vehicle Identification Numbers or VIN, chemically etched on their vehicle windows. The process is quick and does not damage the glass or alter the vehicle’s appearance.

A VIN number is unique to each vehicle and, among other features, helps identify a car if it is stolen.

The Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority provides funding to a statewide network of law enforcement task forces dedicated to combating vehicle theft including the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force.
