Editor’s Note: We welcome Catherine Raynock as our student reporter for Allentown Central Catholic High School.
Catherine is a junior at ACCHS. She is involved with Scholastic Scrimmage, Key Club, Model U.N., BFF Club, softball and is a Viking Ambassador. She lives in Emmaus with her parents and brother, a freshman at ACCHS and her rescue dog Joey. She previously attended St. Ann School in Emmaus and is very excited to share all of Central’s events with the East Penn community.
Allentown Central Catholic High School kicked off the year with the new student picnic Aug. 28, providing lunch and opportunities for freshmen and transfer students to meet fellow classmates and speak with Viking Ambassadors in the Pits. Central opened its doors Aug. 29, which served as a special day for freshmen and transfer students. The new students attended Mass and later the Viking Ambassadors assisted them in navigating the hallways and finding their classes.
All students reported Aug. 30, without the COVID-19 precautions that have been in place the last two school years. A Student Formation Day was held Sept. 1, during which administration members conducted presentations on policies and expectations for the 2022-2023 school year.
Although the year has barely begun, athletics at Central are in full swing. The student body came out for football’s season opener against Liberty Aug. 27 at J. Birney Crum stadium, and once again Sept. 2 against Emmaus High School. The football team hopes to defend its District 11 Class 4A championship title from last year and will play Easton Sept. 10 at J. Birney Crum stadium.
The Central Marching Band and Color Guard are searching for new members to perform at upcoming football games. Sixth through eighth grade partner school students and current ACCHS students are welcome to join.
The boys and girls soccer teams have also begun their seasons, with the Vikettes returning from their state title win last November. Volleyball, cross-country, girls tennis, golf and field hockey have commenced their seasons as well, with the entire school wishing them luck.
The dance team will hold a fundraiser at the Udder Bar 6-9 p.m. Sept. 21.
The Class of 2026 Freshmen Retreat will take place 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 in Masson Auditorium. Parents are required to complete and submit the Diocesan Parental Consent Waiver Form for their child to participate.
Back to School Night will be 6-8 p.m. Sept. 29. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers and see the school.
The ACCHS Viking Homecoming Fun Run/Walk is scheduled Oct. 8. Anyone who wishes to participate should register by visiting viking5k.com. Proceeds will fund the ACCHS Booster Club and the Central City Project. Students and parents are encouraged to volunteer and sponsorships are open for purchase
