With six applications received, the Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council is poised to reconvene.
The EAC hasn’t met in nearly 1-1/2 years.
All nine meetings of the EAC have been canceled in 2022 for lack of a quorum.
Eight meetings of the EAC were canceled, May through December, in 2021, because of a lack of members.
The township EAC last met in April 2021.
Five residents serve on the council.
Several members had resigned and there was an insufficient number of applicants for the EAC.
That has changed, commissioners were told at the Aug. 11 meeting workshop.
Appointments to the EAC are expected to be made at the 7 p.m. Sept. 8 board of commissioners meeting in the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
“They are great candidates,” Commissioner Alok Patnaik said.
Commissioner Heather Lipkin is the commissioners’ liaison to the EAC.
EAC meetings are chaired by Salisbury Township Assistant Manager - Director, Community Development Sandy Nicolo.
If plans proceed, the EAC will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in the municipal building.
The EAC Sept. 21 meeting is canceled.
According to the township website: “Members of the Environmental Advisory Council serve a three-year staggered term and are dedicated to exploring and promoting environmental initiatives in the township.
“The STEAC works at the direction of the Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners and as an extension of township staff to research environmental issues and funding sources; to advise the township manager and commissioners; to sponsor environmental education; to partner with township residents, outside agencies and organizations with similar interests, and to coordinate environmental projects,” the website states.
Duties of the council include, according to the website:
-Promote a community environmental program
-Keep records of its meetings and activities
-Submit an annual report to the board
-Plan events such as community park cleanups
-Attend community events to educate the public on important environmental issues
-Plan meeting agendas that encourage public participation
Also, during the Aug. 11 meeting workshop, commissioners discussed advertising Requests for Proposals for legal and engineering services for the township.
“You would have the opportunity in October to do interviews,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said.
The deadline for the township solicitor RFP is 4 p.m. Sept. 30. The RFP is posted on the township website:

In other business at the Aug. 11 meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve:

-Motion for Payment No. 2 of $86,588.52 to Columbia Excavating, LLC for the Lehigh Avenue Stormwater Improvements Project. Patnaik made the motion, seconded by board of commissioners’ Vice President Rodney Conn.

The Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board is scheduled to meet 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the municipal building.
The Salisbury Township Planning Commission is scheduled to meet 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the municipal building.
