Robert E. Day-Lewis, 76, of Whitehall, died at home Sept. 4, 2022. He was the husband of Joan E. (Niedospial) Day-Lewis for 41 years.
Born in Dundrum, Ireland, he was a son of the late Frederick and Kathleen (Nixon) Day-Lewis.
He was in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the USS George Marshall submarine 1967-1971 during the Vietnam War. He was in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1979 to 1998.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Northeastern University and a Master of Science degree in geology from University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He was a hydrogeologist supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church where he was a frequent volunteer.
He volunteered with the Ironton Rail Trail restoration.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lauren McGeehin, Erin Day-Lewis and Marie Filipek and their spouses; three brothers, Fred Day-Lewis, Wesley Day-Lewis and Brian Day-Lewis; two grandsons, Nathan and Colton; nieces; and nephews.
