Hughey W. Haughney, 88, of Macungie, died Sept. 9, 2022, at home in his wife’s loving arms. He was the husband of Claudia J. (Soldrich) Haughney with whom he shared 30 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his first wife Antoinette (Roman) Haughney. Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Hughey and Mildred (Barton) Haughney.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Breinigsville.

After graduating from Plymouth High School and Dickinson College in 1956, he later was the proprietor of the former Lentz’s Beer and Ale House formerly in Allentown.

He was an Army veteran.

He will be remembered for his love of football especially after playing during his high school and college years. He was remembered by his college mates as the “Happy Irishman.”

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Cheryl, Sharon and her husband, Brian Schimmel, Helen and her husband, Jim Betancourt; brother, Ben and his wife, Debra; stepson, Jay Soldrich and his wife, Felicia; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren as well as one on the way. He was predeceased by a son, Hugh Andrew and a daughter, Elizabeth.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 15 at the Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 W. Highland St., Allentown. Calling will begin 9:30 a.m.
