Glenn Richard Shafer, 74, of Allentown, died Aug. 31, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Allentown, he was the pride and joy of parents, Norine N. (Numbers) Shafer, of Allentown and the late Richard C. Shafer.
After attending elementary school in Allentown he went on to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Philadelphia, graduating in 1968. He attended Lehigh Community College and Bloomsburg College for special classes.
He started working at Saucony Shoe Manufacturing in Macungie for several years, then went to Weis Market in Emmaus. Each time he got his jobs by himself.
In 1985 his family became snowbirds with residence in Stuart, Fla.
Fishing was always a great pastime for he and his dad, both in Pennsylvania and Florida.
In addition, he always enjoyed riding his “three-wheeler” bike.
In 2010 his family moved into Independent Living at Luther Crest.
He always led an active life. For 10 years he was a volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, enjoyed swimming, fishing, bike riding and spending time on the computer following the stock market.
He was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus.
He was happiest riding his bike and spending time talking with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his mother and many cousins.
