Community yard sale benefits K-9 unit

The Catasauqua community yard sale was held Sept. 10 to benefit the borough police department’s K-9 unit.

The event, held at the firefighters’ training center at Race and Second streets, was sponsored by Mayor Barbara Schlegel and her team.

Schlegel noted there may have been “a smaller number of vendors than previous years” but said there was “a steady stream of shoppers” with a variety of purchase options.

The range of items varied from fresh fruit and flowers sold by Total Fresh Express to personal hygiene products, household items and glassware.

Catasauqua Councilman Gene Schlegel sponsored a table to support the effort for the K-9 unit.

Catasauqua resident Bob Zakos attended the sale with his family.

Patron Denise Thompson, a Catasauqua resident, purchased a few items to help the police department.

Wilson and Jallyen Silverio, of Whitehall, sold a number of items, including glassware, candles and other household goods.

Another vendor offered succulent flowers, ornaments, kitchen plates, Christmas items and other kitchen items such as coffee mugs.

Barbara Schlegel and Avery Renzo staffed the hot dog grill to satisfy hungry patrons.

Barbara Schlegel noted she expects to generate several hundred dollars for the K-9 unit.
