Brayden Joseph Erker celebrated earning the rank of Eagle Scout with a Court of Honor ceremony Aug. 17 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 105 E. 19th St., Northampton. Erker, a member of Boy Scout Troop 93, made it through all levels of Scouting since 2016 - Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle. He earned 38 merit badges.
To earn the rank of Eagle, Erker, along with a team, labored at the Goetz Mine Sanctuary Restoration project in Hanover Township, Northampton County. The project benefited both Hanover Township and the Wildlands Conservancy. The Goetz Mine is located at 4623 Harriet Lane, Freemansburg.
An Eagle Court of Honor gathers family members, friends, troop leaders, other Scouts and more. Erker’s parents, Scott Hough and Laci Erker, were on hand and clearly proud of their son’s achievement.
State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, presented Erker with a citation from the state. Mako thanked Erker for his effort and urged other Scouts present to pursue the Eagle Scout rank.
Northampton Mayor Anthony Pristash read a proclamation from the mayor’s office, honoring Erker’s achievement. Pristash reported he was a Scout in his younger years.
“There is nothing more ‘Made in America’ than an Eagle Scout,” Pristash said.
Erker is planning to study geology after high school graduation. He is considering the University of Arizona.
