Board tables housing plan

Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners, at its Sept. 12 meeting, tabled a major subdivision and land development plan.

Whitehall Farms, as proposed, would contain 43 homes on property at 3855 Lehigh St. and 3305 Municipal Drive.

The commissioners proposed three conditions to project developer Philip Albright.

There is currently a dilapidated basketball court across two of the proposed properties. Besides the court being an eyesore, the commissioners believe it will cause ownership disputes between the two potential neighbors. They want it removed from the development.

Commissioner Phil Ginder felt strongly the developer should pay for a walking path in the potential development, rather than relying on recreation fees. The path is more of an asset to the housing development than the township.

The third condition the commissioners proposed was that the homeowners association maintain any walking paths within the development.

A vote on the land development plan is now set for the Oct. 10 meeting.

In other business, commissioners declared September 2022 Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month and Sept. 10 Suicide Awareness and Prevention Day. Help is always available at the 988 national suicide and crisis lifeline. The Lehigh County Crisis Intervention office is available at 610-782-3127.

Commissioners also approved a motion setting trick-or-trick night for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 28, with a rain date of Oct. 29. The township’s annual Halloween parade will take place 7 p.m. Oct. 13.

Whitehall commissioners will meet 7 p.m. Oct. 3 in the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road. Further discussion on Lehigh Valley Health Network’s proposed medical complex is expected to take place at this meeting.
