New solicitor joins North Whitehall board

The 5077 Overlook Road, Strawberry Acres proposal was on the Aug. 1 North Whitehall supervisors’ agenda for a time extension and preliminary plan approval.

Township Manager Randy Cope explained in an email on July 20, “Our Conflict Solicitor Andrew Schantz from Davison and McCarthy will switch places with Tom Dinklelacker at the dais and represent the township.”

Schantz suggested the preliminary plan be placed on the agenda again in October and to table it for the time being.

The developer will need to submit documents for the September planning commission meeting.

In other matters, Ryan Kern of Barry Isset & Associates gave a presentation to the board about the proposed Routes 873 and 309 roundabout.

“PennDOT tasked us and we’re coming up with alternative solutions,” Kern said. “Pennsylvania really doesn’t want traffic signals anymore.”

Schneck Road could be realigned and connected to the roundabout.

The diameters of the circle are similar to the roundabout on Route 222 at Moselem Springs in Fleetwood, Berks County.

The plan was approved as a conceptual presentation.

Resident Nicholas Cihylik spoke to the board about a problem with parking on Cove Road where cars have been parking on his lawn.

He said people were inflating rafts on his property.

Cihylik is concerned emergency vehicles would not be able to get through to the D&L Trailhead boat launch.

Supervisor Dennis Klusaritz said North Whitehall Township does not have a police force, otherwise they would have someone monitoring the area.

There are limits to what the state police can do.
