Girls beat Eastburg North

The Northampton girls soccer team drew East Stroudsburg North for their EPC home opener last Friday. In a result that surprised precisely no one, the K-Kids left the field as 9-0 winners over the Timberwolves.

The K-Kids scored 5 goals in the first 20 minutes and used the remainder of the time as an opportunity to experiment with some different tactics and personnel groupings.

Head coach Michael Missmer offered his takeaways.

“We were able to see some girls in some different positions,” he said. “Some girls that are next in line and we got to see them play. I was really happy with what we saw. We’re still doing things very differently than we have in the past. It’s still a work in progress, but we’re doing what we’re supposed to do.”

Even though the game lacked drama, there were still moments worth celebrating. Olivia Abrachinski and Danika Cuchran both had hat tricks. Chloe Watson, Michelle Hlinka, and Lilly Konya all scored their first varsity goals.

Missmer praised Hlinka’s commitment to team.

“Michelle, as a senior, I’m really proud of that kid,” he said. “Last year, she didn’t make the varsity team and was one of our managers. She had the incredible guts to come back and try out again. Made the team and earned her spot on her own merit and is seeing significant time in every single game.”

On the season, the K-Kids’ record stands at 2-0-1 with the result of yesterday’s game at Liberty not available at press time. In the EPC they are 1-0-1 and have 4 points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 for a loss).

The team continues their EPC schedule with a pair of road games before returning to Joan Kremus Field on Wednesday for a matchup with EPC favorite Parkland. Saturday morning, they head north to challenge the Lady Mounties of Stroudsburg. Monday evening, they will be in Nazareth to take on their former Skyline Division rivals.
