LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

’Canes unbeaten to start season

Liberty’s volleyball team is off to a hot start this season, as the Hurricanes have swept all three of their opponents to kick off the 2022 season.

With Nazareth, Dieruff and Whitehall all falling victim to Liberty (3-0), head coach Connor Swigart is happy with what he’s seeing.

“We are playing very well as a complete team,” said Swigart. “We were mixing some different players in different spots and they moved in there seamlessly. We also had some girls getting their first varsity action and it was great to see them play their role and do well. There are some things that we can improve on but knowing our girls we will get to work to improve on those areas.”

With matches against Pleasant Valley (4-0) and Bethlehem Catholic (2-1) this week, Liberty will have a chance to further strengthen their case as one of the top teams in District 11.

“This team is just full of girls who want to keep getting better and growing as players,” Swigart said. “They stay late or come in early to get extra reps in. They also have a joy for playing that is very rare. From JV to Varsity they love to play, love to be around each other and want to be the best teammates they can be. It makes coaching them a lot easier when they are so open to feedback and coaching from everyone on the staff.”

Becahi is also looking forward to this week’s test against the Hurricanes, as it’ll be another gauge for the group against one of the top teams in the EPC.

After losing to Emmaus (3-0) in five games of their season opener, the Hawks have responded with wins over Freedom and Easton.

They’ll tune up with Pocono Mountain West this week before Friday’s tilt with Liberty.

Freedom (0-2) looks to notch their first win this week with matches against Stroudsburg (1-3) and Easton (1-2).
